Direction of Office(s):  From Raleigh: Take I-40 west to Highway 751 (Exit 274). Turn right off the exit and go about 1 mile, to the light at Highway 54. At the light turn left onto Highway 54. You 'll go about 1/10 of a mile before turning right onto Dresden Road.

of Biscayne Road and Highway 54.
Due to lack of a turn lane onto Biscayne Rd., continue on 54 and

Background Information:  Dr. Kristen Wynns is a specialist in children, adolescents, and families. She holds a Doctorate and Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology and is a Licensed Psychologist. Dr. Wynns is experienced in individual, couples, family, group and play therapy. In addition, she has extensive experience in conducting psychoeducational evaluations across the academic spectrum, to include evaluating for learning disabilities and AD/HD as well as gifted children and adolescents. Her dissertation and published research about the effects of marital conflict on children and teenagers has cemented her special interest in working with children and adolescents dealing with divorce or marital conflict in the family. Prior to working in private practice in Durham, Dr. Wynns has worked at a child development center, child and family services center, AD/HD specialty clinic, in-patient adolescent unit, and an Autism group home. Dr. Wynns has led a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, speech therapists, and occupational therapists conducting evaluations of preschool children for Wake County Schools. She has experience working with children and adolescents with a variety of common teen and childhood issues such as dealing with divorce, behavior problems, AD/HD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Bipolar Disorder, social problems, Asperger's Syndrome, depression, anxiety and phobias, obsessive/compulsive disorders, and family and school difficulties. She runs a social skills groups on a regular basis for children who have difficulty making and keeping friends, connecting to peer groups, or handling anger/frustration appropriately. Her experience extends to working with parents and families as well. She also works with parents of preschoolers and toddlers in helping them deal with sleep and eating problems, behavior problems, dealing with fears, and effective discipline techniques.
In addition to her specialty work with children and families, Dr. Wynns has always enjoyed seeing individual adults and couples as part of her practice. She has experience working with adults with a broad range of common concerns, such as depression and mood disturbances in general, anxiety, adult AD/HD and attention issues, weight issues, relationship concerns, and general concerns about career/educational goal setting, assertiveness, and living a life with meaning. In her professional positions she has worked with a very diverse client population with regard to racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Dr. Wynns is committed to making therapy or evaluation a positive and helpful experience for all of her clients.
