Background Information: |
 |
I am a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in working with Adults. I have received specialized training with adults using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) from Dr. Clive Robbins at Duke University; hypnotherapy with Dr. Bob Dick, Human Resources Consultants in Raleigh and Transactional Analysis (TA) from Dr. Vann Joines, Southeast Institute for Group & Family Therapy in Chapel Hill, NC. In addition to my MSW, I received a Master of Science (MS) in social psychology in 1983 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. The previous year, 1982, I received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology graduating with cum laude honors. For two years following my degree in social psychology, I worked as an Industrial/Organizational psychologist for a computer manufacturing company where I provided teambuilding and stress management for business executives. For twelve years prior to receiving my MSW, I owned and operated a software development company with my husband.
I take a practical approach to understanding individuals. My role is to assist you in finding a solution to your problems, not to tell you the solution, for the solution will be uniquely yours and, therefore, the best answer. I use cognitive behavioral techniques - meaning we examine your thought habits and how they cause your feelings and behaviors. I have found using Mindfulness and TA have been beneficial tools for my clients in making their desired self-change. I do give homework assignments as a way to continue the process outside of the therapeutic hour. I endeavor to find a way where you can receive the maximum benefit from our working together.
